For B2B SaaS: make Google bid on signups that pay
Google bids on whatever you tell it is a conversion. In a 5 Nov 2026 scan of 206 B2B SaaS sites with Google Ads conversions, 33.5% counted a finished signup, 13.6% a payment and 6.8% an in-product action after signup. Meanwhile 15.5% counted a click on the signup button, 7.8% the signup page view, and 7.3% a login. None counted a trial ending. Fireshift shows which of these your site sends, from the outside, in about a minute.
What B2B SaaS sites count, by funnel step
| Step counted as a Google Ads conversion | Sites | Share of 206 | Our view |
|---|---|---|---|
| Click on a signup or trial button | 32 | 15.5% | Secondary at most |
| Signup page view or "signup began" | 16 | 7.8% | Not a conversion |
| Finished signup, trial started, account created | 69 | 33.5% | Primary |
| In-product action (integration connected, teammate invited) | 14 | 6.8% | Primary if it predicts paying |
| Paid, upgraded, subscribed | 28 | 13.6% | Primary, with value |
| Login or a page load inside the app | 15 | 7.3% | Not a conversion |
| Trial ended | 0 | 0% | Not a conversion |
Static rescan of 306 B2B SaaS domains, 206 with Google Ads conversion tags, 5 Nov 2026. A site can count several steps. We read the containers loaded by the homepage, /pricing, /signup and /demo; an app-only container is missed, so the later steps are floors. Full method.
26 of the 206 sites (12.6%) count signup only by a click or a page view: Google never hears that an account was created.
The three questions for your own account
- Which step does Google think is the win? List your primary actions. For most B2B SaaS that should be one to three: signup or demo booked, a qualified lead from the CRM, and paid. The rule.
- Is anything noise? Page views, logins, CTA clicks and duplicate fires. Each has a check: page views, logins, clicks, duplicates.
- Does Google know what a signup is worth? 68.4% of 193 B2B SaaS Ads sites send no value on any conversion (5 Nov). The value check.
When the signup happens in the app
Signup often ends on app. or a separate domain where the marketing GTM container doesn't load. Then the conversion has to come from the app (a sign_up event after the account exists) or from your database or CRM through offline conversion import or enhanced conversions for leads. That route also carries activation and paid, which the browser rarely sees.
What to buy, if anything
| If | Then | Price |
|---|---|---|
| You want to know what's wrong first | Free scan | $0 |
| Your team will fix it, and you want to see what competitors count | Teardown | $149 one-time |
| You want it fixed for you | Fix Sprint, 5 working days, a year of Watch included | €1,500 fixed |
| It's clean and you want to hear when it breaks | Watch | €490 a year |
Fix Sprint: you pay 50% to start. You pay the other 50% only when our after-scan shows the flagged issues fixed. Teardown: if the teardown finds nothing worth fixing, you don't pay. All prices.
FAQ
We have an analytics engineer. Is this for us?
The scan takes a minute and needs no access, so it is a cheap second opinion. Our samples are mostly well-known SaaS vendors, and the findings above show up there too.
Can you see which of our conversions are primary?
No. That lives in your Google Ads account. We show what your site sends and what triggers it; you check the status in Goals, Conversions.
Will cleaning up hurt our campaigns?
Reported conversions drop, because they counted things that weren't signups. Bidding needs one to two weeks to relearn after a goal change. We make the changes in one go so it happens once.
