Fireshift / Free tools / Google Ads conversion noise calculator
How much of your Ads conversion count is noise?
Enter your monthly conversions and spend, and the share you think is page views, logins and duplicates. See the CPA Google Ads reports next to the CPA per real lead. An estimate, with the formula shown.
Share of those conversions that are…
Formula, with your numbers
This is an estimate. It is only as good as the shares you type in, and it assumes every non-noise conversion is a real lead. Nothing leaves this page.
What the calculator does
Google Ads counts whatever your conversion tags tell it to count. If one of your primary conversion actions is a page view, a login or a click, Google Ads adds those to the Conversions column, divides spend by the total and shows you a CPA that is lower than what you pay for a real lead. Smart Bidding then optimises toward whoever triggers those events. This calculator takes out the noise you name and shows the CPA per real lead.
How to find your shares
- In Google Ads, open Goals, Conversions, Summary, and set the date range to the last full month.
- Look at each primary action and its count in the Conversions column. An action that fires on a page view (pricing, "thank you" rules that also match blog posts, All Pages) goes into page views. An action on login or an app page goes into logins.
- For duplicates, compare a lead action's monthly count with the number of new leads in your CRM for the same month. If Ads says 300 and the CRM has 240, the gap of 60 is roughly 15% of 400 total conversions in the example above.
- Not sure what an action fires on? Read your container with the GTM container viewer: conversions on a page-load trigger with no conditions are marked red.
What it does not do
It does not know your account. It can't see which actions are primary (that lives in Google Ads), how Smart Bidding weighs each one, or your conversion values. If you use value-based bidding, noise with a value hurts more than the count suggests, because Google optimises toward the value. We show the formula so you can check the maths yourself.
FAQ
Is the 'real CPA' exact?
No. It is spend divided by the conversions left after you remove the shares you entered. If your shares are rough, so is the result. Use your CRM's new-lead count for the month as a cross-check.
Why does it matter if Google Ads counts page views?
Smart Bidding learns from the primary conversions you give it. If a quarter of them are pricing-page views, it learns to buy people who look at pricing, not people who become leads. Reported CPA goes down while cost per real lead goes up. More in why a conversion firing on every page hurts.
Should I count secondary conversions here?
No. Secondary actions show in All conversions but are not used for bidding by default. Use the Conversions column, which only holds primary actions. From outside, nobody can see which of your actions are primary.
What counts as a duplicate?
One real lead counted twice: two Google Ads tags on the same success event, the Ads tag and an imported GA4 key event for the same form, or a thank-you page that counts again on reload. See how to find duplicates in GTM.
Does this tool store my numbers?
No. The maths runs in this tab. The numbers sit in the page address only so you can share the link, and that address never reaches us unless you send it to us.
